Sustainability & The Area

Located in a Natural Park, saving natural resources and being eco-friendly is one of our priorities: solar panels, water control, recycling and supporting local consumption are some of the initiatives we make in our hostel. We are committed to creating a positive impact on the environment and the local community while providing an unforgettable holiday experience.

Let’s protect Sagres and its surroundings together!

Why Are We Sustainable?

Why Are We Sustainable?

Solar Energy

Energy efficiency is a priority for us. We have implemented some measures to minimize our carbon footprint, including the use of LED light bulbs, rechargeable batteries and the installation of solar panels on our roof. The 90% of the electricity we consume is provided by them! Our goal is to make our energy consumption 100% self-sufficient by 2026.

Water Control & Quality

The Algarve region has experienced severe periods of drought in recent years. Therefore, we avoid unnecessary waste of water by limiting shower time (in our dorms) and use filtered water to ensure its quality and reduce the use of bottled water. Also our swimming pool has salt water, which in addition to being eco-friendly is less aggressive to the skin.

Recycling & Reusing

We separate all our waste to make sure that most of it can be recycled. We have different bins in our common kitchen: carton & paper, glass, plastic and non recyclable wastes. Besides, we like to find new uses for our waste so if you have ideas to give a second life to it, feel free to let us know!

Local Food

We offer food from local markets at our healthy breakfast buffet to reduce the carbon footprint associated with food transportation and promote the local economy. In addition, we offer vegetarian and vegan options to promote more sustainable food habits.

Responsible Transports

We encourage the use of alternative transports, by offering rental of bikes and skate/longboards, and providing a place to park them (including for those who bring theirs). In our reception you can also find information about the public transports available near us!

Vegetable Garden

We plant our own vegetables and herbs (like cherry tomatoes, parsley and cucumbers) and we use them for our healthy breakfast!

Eco-friendly Furniture

We prioritize local sourcing, particularly when it comes to the cork and wood used to construct all our beds. Both are renewable and eco-friendly materials, and their natural textures and warm tones provide our guests with a comfortable and eco-friendly sleeping experience.

Sanitization of Facilities

We use concentrated detergents for the cleaning and disinfection of our facilities. Our detergents require a smaller amount of product to achieve optimal results, which reduces waste and minimises environmental impact.

Common Library

We have a range of books available to all our guests. We firmly believe that offering a variety of reading options is a sustainable way to promote learning and culture.
