Living as a digital nomad is a very unique experience in Sagres, Portugal. This small town on the west coast of Portugal offers an incredible mix of people, beaches, and activities – all within walking distance of each other!
Here’s my summary of what I learned after spending one month working from Sagres, Portugal as a digital nomad.
Do you ever feel like you are in a rush and need to get out of your comfort zone? I know that feeling all too well, but I also know that it is difficult to take that leap. When the opportunity came up for me to be an international digital nomad for one month in Portugal, I jumped at the chance. I made sure I had some cash at hand, packed my bags, and didn’t look back!
I quickly found out that I could work in the coworking space, inside the facilities of Sagres Sun stay, to have professional meetings and work with other digital nomads. It’s such a privilege to be able to work from anywhere with a good internet connection and meet like-minded people from all around the world.
When I first arrived in Sagres, I was really excited to meet new people. The hostel had a great atmosphere and a lot of activities. On my spare time I tried surf lessons with a surf instructor and it was awesome to try and learn a new sport. There are many local beaches where one can learn or practice surfing. One of the most famous in Sagres town is Tonel beach. After some sessions, my body needed a rest, so it was great to book a in-house massage. The Karaoke nights and my attempts to try skating were also lots of fun. However, when I told people that I was staying and working in the hostel for a month, they all thought that it would be too weird and difficult to combine work with pleasure – but it was not the case at all. From day one, I met two other girls who were also staying in the hostel and working as digital nomads for months. We became friends instantly and it was great to explore the local restaurants and bars. I will remember for a long time the fresh fish I ate here!
During my time in Sagres, I met people from all over the world and learned about their lives. When I was with friends, we would always chat about what life is like in other countries and how we think it’s better or worse than my life in Barcelona. It’s fascinating to know what people have to go through just to live their lives. I know that when I return home, I will be thankful for the opportunity to meet new people that share the same lifestyle as mine.
It’s a fact that surfing associated with yoga, can be a real therapy, it is able to fight state of anxiety and remove worries. The reason these two activities fits so good together surely lies in the complementary physical benefits of surfing and yoga: balance, flexibility, control, and endurance are the foundation of both, and this combination also represents the choice of a lifestyle.
Now that you know about this connection between these two activities, join us at Sagres Sun Stay and try it on yourself!
